Why Thermal Break Aluminium Is the Modern Standard

Plain aluminium conducts heat like a radiator — it would turn your glass door into a thermal bridge. Thermal break technology inserts a PA66GF25 polyamide strip between the inner and outer aluminium profiles, breaking the heat path. The result: doors that look slim and modern like aluminium, but perform thermally like timber. This is the standard for European passive house, low-energy, and commercial facade projects.

Thermal Break Construction Explained

• Profile material: Aluminium alloy 6063-T5 — the architectural standard: strong, extrudable, corrosion-resistant.
• Wall thickness: Skylink uses 1.4–2.0 mm wall profiles (above the 1.2 mm minimum for CE class).
• Thermal break strip: PA66GF25 (Polyamide 66 with 25% glass fiber) — 24 mm wide, the most common size for mid-performance doors.

Anodizing vs Powder Coating: Which to Specify?

• Anodized finish: Electrochemical conversion of aluminium surface into a hard oxide layer. Natural matte silver look; exceptional scratch and corrosion resistance; ideal for coastal and high-traffic facades. Available in natural, champagne, bronze, and black anodized.
• Powder coating: Electrostatic polyester powder baked onto the profile. Unlimited RAL color choice (matte black, anthracite grey, white, custom); 60–80 µm thickness; standard for most modern European projects.
• Hybrid: Anodized on the exterior (weather resistance), powder coated on interior (color match to interior palette).

Glass and Acoustic Performance

Skylink aluminium doors use double tempered insulating glass with 12 mm argon-filled air gap. Options include clear, frosted (privacy), laminated (security), and low-E (thermal).
